Student Employment at VCU

VCU

The employment of students at Virginia Commonwealth University is intended to be of mutual benefit to students who want employment and to those members of the university and surrounding communities who need jobs performed.

Student employment is a supportive service, but at the same time it must remain a complementary part of the educational process. A balance of study time and work time is crucial.  FWS experience is added value to the VCU experience.

Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and file this application with the federal processor. The federal processor will process the application data and transmit the information to VCU. the student will be notified of work study funds as part of their need-based financial aid package.  The Financial Aid Office determines the amount of the award. Not every studen receiving need based financial aid recieves work study as part of their aid package.

Note: an important advantage of earning FWS dollars vs. any other income, in that the wages you earn under the FWS program offset your Adjusted Gross Income when you report it on the FAFSA , worksheet C. for the following year.

Employers  should refer to the Student Supervisor Information section for futher informatin on these two programs.
